Computer Viruses

Today you are going to be learning about computer viruses

Do this:

• Go to the area where you save your documents
• Go to your Computer Science folder (if you don't already have one, create one now)
• Inside your Computer Science folder create one called 'Year 7'
• Inside your Year 7 folder, create one called 'Online Safety

• Double click the Word icon on the right to open the document. Save it into your new 'online safety' folder with the name: 'Computer Viruses'

Watch this:

• Watch this video, you can start and stop it as needed. You will need headphones

Write this:

• Answer the questions on your worksheet.
• You have 15 minutes to complete this activity. Start the timer now by pressing 'Play'

Do this:

• If you finish early:
• Find out the names of three different brands of anti-virus software
• Find out three different tasks performed by anti-virus software
• Find out what 'quarantine' means when you use anti-virus software

Information:

• You will be given 5 minutes to read the information about a virus called Rombertik.
• Once your 5 minutes are up you will be asked to write down as many facts as you can remember
• When you are ready to begin start the timer by pressing 'Play'
• Then click on THIS LINK to read about Rombertik.
• When the timer reaches 00:00:00 close the page about Rombertik

Write this:

• Double click the Word icon on the right to open the document. Save it into your 'online safety' folder with the name: 'Rombertik'

• You have 3 minutes to write down as much as you can remember about Rombertik in the document you have just saved.
• Press 'play' to start your timer
• When the timer reaches 00:00:00 stop writing and save your work

Do this:

• Compare your notes about Rombertik with the ones that your neighbour has written down
• Did you remember the same facts?
• Have you remembered something that your neighbour forgot about?

Do this:

• Double click the PowerPoint icon on the right to open the file. Save it into your 'online safety' folder and call it 'Computer Viruses'

• Using the internet research information about:
• Viruses
• Worms (computer not garden)
• Trojan horses
• Spyware

Write this:

• Using the PowerPoint file that you just saved, create a presentation to explain these different terms.
• You only have 20 minutes total time to do this task
• That works out at just 5 minutes per slide - including your research!

Save this:

• Make sure you have saved all of your work before logging off
